Earlier this week we wrote about re-examining the Elliot Lake region for new uranium resources. In response, we received the following from Allan J. Willey:
Of course, uranium mining should return to Elliot Lake if feasible. A retirement community can't hold up economic development which will benefit future generations in Ontario. If uranium mining were to resume, then the retired persons now living in Elliot Lake will most likely be able to sell their homes at a healthy profit if they so wish and could possibly move to the retirement community at Manitowadge (unless of course the current exploration boom makes a new discovery there!). I jest! Actually, an integrated community would probably work as Elliot Lake is now largely an old fogey community. A large part of this community would probably welcome a normal society composed not only of elders but also of younger working families with children, providing the community with the special qualities that only a balanced community can.
