ALBERTA - RIMEX SUPPLY of Surrey, B.C., says its new wheel-rim maintenance facility in Edmonton will be opening in September 2008. The company will provide inspection, maintenance and repairs for operators in the oil sands north of Fort McMurray.

Rimex calls its initiative a proactive step towards increasing safety on its customers' work site. There is no Canadian legislation requiring mining companies with earthmoving equipment to meet specific maintenance standards for their wheels and rims. Rimex is using the Australian standard as its guide. All wheel-rim assemblies that come into the Rimex facility will undergo a six-step process to produce a report identifying all weaknesses and the recommendations for repair or replacement.

Companies that partner with Rimex will benefit from extended wheel and rim life, improved safety levels and increased savings. The identification and repair of weaknesses is a procedure that can substantially increase the life of the wheels and rims, allowing them a longer useful life. Additionally, by properly testing and tracking each wheel/rim, users can accurately gauge the cost of each assembly and clearly identify the best-value products.
