As the editorial above relates, Ecuador passed a new mining mandate in mid-April, and companies are scrambling to understand how it will affect their exploration and development work in the country. Here is a chance to make your voice heard on this important issue. Our new Hot Topics question is: How should foreign mining and exploration companies working in Ecuador respond to the new mining mandate announced last week by the government?

To give us your opinion on this question and to check the results, visit the Hot Topic box on our homepage or Click Here.

Last week readers weighed in on the possibility of another extremely high-grade gold deposit being found in the Red Lake area of Ontario. The "yes" vote has run 62%, the "yes, but not in the near future" option has beeb favoured by 25%. Respondents with a pessimistic bent, only 12.5%, voted "no".
Our correspondent Allan J. Willy is in the optimistic camp. He wrote: "The answer has to be yes, but not in the near future, for any legitimate prospector or geologist. And, the same answer should be applied to almost any other gold project out there, Red Lake or Timbuktu (a plug for the Mali gold plays). If we can't follow that explorationist dream then we may as well throw in the towel and take up some more practical form of employment accounting?"
