OTTAWA - The MINING ASSOCIATION OF CANADA (MAC) has elected Jim Gowans as chair of the association. He is the president and CEO of DE BEERS CANADA. Outgoing chair Peter R. Jones of HUDBAY MINERALS has completed his two-year term. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Gowans has been an active member of the MAC board and a key member of the Towards Sustainable Mining governance team.
Two others were elected to the MAC board: Doug Horswill (TECK COMINCO) as first vice-chair and Terry Bowles (IRON ORE CO. OF CANADA) as second vice-chair.
