Planning the Future for Radioactive Sulphide Tailings

A Community Forum will be held in Elliot Lake, Ont., on May 4, 2000, for all stakeholders associated with the mining and rehabilitation activities in the region. The forum will explore a proposal to create a partnership between the public, mining companies and regulatory agencies to ensure that the communities within the Serpent River Watershed remain environmentally healthy and economically sustainable. This region contains close to 20% of the acid-producing tailings in Ontario, and 10% in Canada. The forum will be hosted by the City of Elliot Lake, the Township of the North Shore and the Serpent River First Nation. For more information contact Lembi Buchanan via telephone at (416) 922-0202 or e-mail at juri@the-wire.com
