Mike Hoffman, P.Eng., joins Toronto-based Desert Sun Mining Corp. as vice-president, strategic development, in mid-September 2005. Most recently Hoffman was vice-president, projects for Goldcorp Inc.

Montreal-based Dia Bras Exploration Inc. has appointed Dr. Thomas L. Robyn as chairman and CEO of the company. The post of chairman was formerly held by Philip Renaud.

R.J. (Jim) Brown, CA, has been appointed as vice-president and CFO of the Fording Canadian Coal Trust based in Calgary, effective October 3, 2005. Brown will also be appointed vice-president and CFO of the Elk Valley Coal Partnership. He will replace Ron Millos, who is returning to Teck Cominco Ltd. as senior vice-president, finance and CFO to take the place of John Taylor, who is retiring.

Effective October 1, 2005, Anita L. Roncin will become vice-president, finance and CFO of Grande Cache Coal Corp., based in Calgary. Roncin currently serves as controller of the company. She will replace Thomas E. Pierce, who will be leaving the corporation.

Iamgold Corp. of Toronto has hired John McCombe as its new vice-president operations. He will be responsible for overseeing both existing operations and late-stage development projects. Most recently, McCombe held the same post at Breakwater Resources.

Toronto-based Inco Ltd. has appointed Robert (Bob) D.J. Davies as executive vice-president and CFO effective Nov. 1, 2005. He currently serves as CFO of Alumina Ltd., the Australian partner in the Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals business.

Trevor A. Moss is now the vice-president operations at Toronto-based Tiberon Minerals. His mandate includes development of the Nui Phao tungsten-fluorspar property in Vietnam.

Yukon Zinc Corp. of Vancouver has appointed Pamela Ladyman as vice-president environment and community affairs. She joined the company in February of this year to manage the permitting of the Wolverine zinc-silver project. In addition, Ladyman is responsible for the management of health and safety matters for the company.
