VoIP for security system?
Your recent article [New waves: Voice Over Internet Protocol] in the September 2005 issue was very interesting. One question that was not addressed is, if we have a phone-based security system, will VoIP technology work for the security? Is it recommended?

I assume you are referring to a monitored security alarm system. I am not terribly familiar with them, but I believe they require a dedicated phone line, to ensure the integrity of the signal from each monitored system. Although VoIP is secure for voice, I am not sure if it would be suitable for that application. I suggest you consult your security provider about whether VoIP could be used or not.
