Image & Communications
Perhaps more than ever before, a company’s image and its ability to communicate with investors are key ingredients to survival but sadly, far too many mining companies are missing the boat when it comes to these parts of doing business.
In terms of image, many mining companies are lax when it comes to simple things like their own logos. Sure, some take great pride in their logos and that’s why we feature the “Logo of the Month” above, but on the whole, the majority of companies don’t pay enough attention to their logos.
Secondly there’s communications and one of the things we’ve noticed about many mining companies is that they don’t know how to document all of the good things they are doing. By this we mean taking high-quality photographs of their work.
And finally, we’re pleased to finish off this item with something we think you’ll find interesting. For the past eight years now, we’ve been receiving Holiday Greetings’ cards from Marketing Strategies & Solutions, an advertising agency in London, Ont. that handles mining products and each year we look forward to the card because of the effort that goes into creating them.
Aside from the work and cost of involved with producing the cards, what we find most interesting is that the sender researches the economic trends of the times and conveys holiday wishes and a message in a fashion fash appropriate to those times. He also creates a caricature of himself as a very effective way of communicating an image as a reminder of who he is and the company he represents.
It’s all called marketing.
