Dear Ray,
On behalf of everyone at Barrick Gold Corporation, we wish you all the best as you retire. Your leadership and sound approach with the Canadian Mining Journal have continued to build up a successful publication that reflects the issues, aspira-tions and achievements of the mining industry in Canada. We’re pleased to be among your subscribers and occasional contribu-tors to a fine magazine.

My Dear Ray,
I am sitting here thinking about our first meeting when Frank introduced us, must be close to 30 years ago.
I always looked forward to seeing you at the industry events and most of all remembering all the fun the four of us had in the islands.
Wish you all the best for a wonderful retirement and I will see you at Frank’s memorial golf tournament Sept. 2nd.
Love Ya Ray,

This is truly the end of an era. You were always on the leading edge and together we “broke some new ground” with the first mining map! Enjoy your down time. I am sure that you will.
Take care of yourself and when flying around London, do drop in!
Robert Adeland Marketing Strategies and Solutions “WHO IS RAYMOND PERKS?” I asked a mutual friend who advised Ray was moving from Montreal and needed a job. I was in the process of building an advertising team for CIM at their new sales office in Etobicoke and I agreed to meet with him the next day. When he arrived that morning for the interview I found him to have a magnetic personality. His smile and whit was entertaining and I found myself feeling as if I had known him for some time?
After explaining we were planning to take on Canadian Mining Journal who was our major competi-tor in advertising pages, he felt he would be able to han-dle the job and work with our team and, with Ray being a former U. S Marine, I thought this would be a good CIM fit.
Many years have passed since that interview and when I look back, Raymond Perks was a strong contributor in achieving CIM’s advertising goals in Northern and Southern Ontario.
But really, who is Raymond Perks?
He is a man with high integrity, character and honesty and I firmly believe that’s what Canadian Mining Journal saw when they hired him for the Publisher’s posi-tion. I consider Ray Perks as one of my best friends, and I wish him health, success and happiness in his well-deserved retirement.

After your decades of service to the mining industry Ray, enjoy yourself! Now, you will have a lot more time to make music for your favourite marching band. But remember without mining, there are no brass instruments.

Here at CAMESE we know Ray as one of those “always there” people -well known, smiling, interested, attending many events and very capably representing the public face of the venerable Canadian Mining Journal.
We thank him for many years of collaboration and wish him all the best in the next phase of his life.
