Seequent, which operates as The Bentley Subsurface Company, launched a comprehensive update to its Leapfrog mining software this week, targeting improved productivity across drilling operations, geological modeling, and resource estimation workflows that serve the global mining and mineral exploration sectors.

"Improving productivity, reducing risk, and maximising return on investment are critical for our mining and mineral exploration customers," Dr Rachel Murtagh, manager of product management for geology, geostatistics and data science at Seequent, said. "In this release, we're doubling down on our implicit modelling capabilities to further advance geological modelling, with major advances in stratigraphic modelling."

Seequent develops 3D geological modeling and mineral resource estimation software for the global mining and mineral exploration industry through its flagship Leapfrog platform.

The company introduced enhanced capabilities to its flagship 3D geological modeling tools, Leapfrog Geo and Leapfrog Edge, in the 2026.1 release. The software now features deeper integration between platforms, advanced computational algorithms, and streamlined data-driven processes that reduce manual intervention while increasing precision across geological modeling tasks.

Software update targets drilling cost reduction

Mining companies can expect more accurate targeting and faster planning cycles with the updated platform, which Seequent designed to address drilling costs that represent the largest expense category in mineral exploration. The enhanced workflow connects drillhole design directly to resource estimation processes, creating seamless data flow that supports more confident decision-making throughout exploration projects.

The product manager highlighted how new features create more integrated workflows across modeling and estimation processes.

"New features in drillhole planning and estimation create a more seamless, end-to-end workflow across the modelling and resource estimation process—improving consistency, reducing manual effort, and increasing confidence in results, helping geologists work more efficiently and make better-informed decisions as project complexity grows," Murtagh explained.

Advanced grid-pattern planning tool enhances campaign design

The software update introduces a sophisticated grid-pattern planning tool that enables rapid deployment of large-scale drilling campaigns through live 3D interaction capabilities. Geologists can now maintain flexibility while editing individual targeted holes with greater precision than previous versions allowed.

Seequent enhanced user interactions by adding features that allow collar snapping directly to geological surfaces and provide improved control over collar and target point positioning. These refinements reduce time spent adjusting planned drillholes and minimize reworking requirements during campaign development.

The company integrated Leapfrog Geo with Orica Digital Solutions' AXIS Connect platform, powered by Seequent Evo, creating direct connections between drillhole planning software and drill rig execution systems. This integration supports more effective drilling campaign design while reducing costly operational errors.

Complex geology modeling receives algorithm improvements

Geological modeling received significant improvements through an advanced stratigraphy surface feature that accelerates modeling workflows in complex geological environments. The new algorithm and stratigraphic data explorer interface produce geologically sound results for layer thickness analysis, pinch-out identification, and tight fold geometry modeling.

The enhanced modeling capabilities create dynamic links between models and underlying data, reducing manual editing requirements and allowing geologists to focus on higher-value interpretation tasks. Seequent designed these features to support more scalable stratigraphic models that accelerate project timelines while reducing operational risk.

Resources estimation workflow gets dedicated data preparation system

Resource estimation workflows gained structure and transparency through a dedicated data preparation system that strengthens Leapfrog Edge as a comprehensive estimation platform. The integrated approach creates rigorous end-to-end environments for geostatistical modeling while reducing dependence on external tools and manual processes.

The updated platform includes interactive tools for capping and declustering that enable rapid scenario testing and comparison capabilities. These features support more informed modeling decisions and create defensible outcomes for resource reporting requirements.

Cloud integration expands through Seequent Evo platform

Seequent enhanced integration between Leapfrog 2026.1 and Seequent Evo, the company's cloud-based geoscience platform that connects data across multiple applications. This integration promotes more unified workflows across different geological analysis tools.

Murtagh emphasized the company's continued innovation focus in geological data management and analysis.

"We're continuing to redefine how customers can work with their data to drive innovation with Leapfrog, enabled by Seequent Evo, to solve operational challenges and unlock new value across the mining lifecycle," she said.

The 2026.1 release represents Seequent's ongoing effort to address productivity challenges in mineral exploration through integrated software solutions that connect geological modeling.
