SUMMARY:Mine Planning - Operations
DESCRIPTION:The drive to exploit a mineral resource\, such that it adds as much value as possible to the mining business\, requires a continual update of the mine plan and the rapid implementation of any value-adding opportunities as they arise. \nThis webcast follows on from the Mine Planning – Strategy webcast where participants were briefly introduced to the five key technical levers in mining that can be used to evaluate avenues for creating additional value: mining method selection; process route selection; scale of operation; sequence and scheduling; and cut-off grade policy. \nThe Mine Planning – Operations webcast dives deeper in to the final two levers for value creation as part of the strategic mine planning process. \nSequence and scheduling\nCut-off grade policy\nThe effect of sequence and scheduling in both open pit and underground mine environments will be analyzed. This will be followed by an in-depth investigation into cut-off policy. A number of practical worked examples will be discussed to illustrate the impacts of these two levers. \nOn completion of the webcast\, participants will be able to recognize and have a greater understanding of the importance of these two levers in mining to effectively unlock value from mining projects. \nThis course requires participants to undertake numerous calculation-based exercises to effectively demonstrate the impact of each of the key levers that will be addressed. All participants will be provided with template/pre-filled Excel spreadsheets to minimize time spent on data entry. Good knowledge of Excel is therefore required. \nThe webcast assumes participants understand financial and economic concepts such as net present value and economic theory\, and how these apply to mining versus other traditional industries. \nWho Should Attend?\nThis course is designed for participants with mining industry exposure who want to gain an appreciation of the fundamental mine planning process and learn about two of the key levers that drive value within mining operations. It is also recommended for mine planning professionals who want to refresh their mine planning knowledge as it pertains to sequence and scheduling as well as cut-off grade.
