A coast-to-coast glimpse at mining across Canada

Canadian Mining Journal Staff | September 1, 2010 | 12:00 am

It’s been a busy month for CMJ Editor Russ Noble as he went coast-to-coast visiting various sites and attending conferences. From (l to r) a core dump found in a remote bush, to 1000 feet down a silver mine, to a precarious landing at a drill site on a mountain top, Noble got a taste of everything as he travelled the country during the busiest time of the year for mining in Canada. Site visits, as Noble said in his Editorial, are educational but as shown in the adjacent photos, can also be somewhat alarming and dangerous. Mine safety and concerns for the environment are becoming increasingly important and these photos simply show a sampling of what and where mining companies are working and what footprint they’re leaving behind.
