A sad sign of BC’s summer
Forest fires in British Columbia this past summer made headlines around the world as teams of firefighters from a number of countries worked to contain the blazes. This photo was taken near the Giant-Mine Road by BC Hydro’s Tonia Jurbin. The Nine Bay Lake forest fire started running eastward across the centerline of the proposed 230kV Columbia Valley Transmission line where several forestry, survey and engineering crews had been working. Many mining companies throughout the province are in areas where forest fires can have a devastating impact on their operations by cutting off vital power supplies. BC Hydro’s Transmission Maintenance Services Division does a remarkable job of helping maintain power even during fires.
