Talent unearthed
Almost every person has talents beyond routine occupations, and one of those people is Yvon Lemens, a man who was hired as a labourer, sampler and geotech four years ago by Stornoway to work at Renard. Yvon came from Gaspe, Quebec, and as his new employer soon learned, he brought far more to the job than a strong back and equally strong work ethic. He was, in fact, a diamond in the rough in his own right, because as everyone in camp soon learned, Yvon was also an excellent stone carver. He had carved many types of rock before coming to the Renard Project, and once he found that the site’s Lynx Dike made a very good and beautiful carving stone, he started chipping away and creating small figurines in his spare time. Since then, Stornoway has been providing Yvon with Lynx Dike kimberlite for carving and has subsequently presented his carvings as gifts to special guests who have visited the Renard deposit.
