Multi-year partnership formalizes collaboration framework for mineral exploration activities

Boreal Gold (CSE: BGLD) signed an exploration agreement with Kiciwapa Cree Nation on March 12, 2026, establishing a formal framework for mineral exploration within the First Nation's traditional territory in Manitoba.

The Canadian junior exploration company negotiated the agreement in Flin Flon, creating structured protocols for transparency, communication, environmental responsibility and community engagement during exploration activities.

Long-term relationship formalized

Richard Masson, Boreal's president and chief executive officer, said the company has collaborated with Kiciwapa Cree Nation for several years, providing employment to community members while building mutually beneficial relationships.

"We have been working with Kiciwapa Cree Nation for several years now, providing employment to members of their community and building upon a relationship that has been beneficial to both parties. We are proud to formalize this exploration agreement with Kiciwapa Cree Nation. This agreement reflects a shared commitment to respectful collaboration and to ensuring exploration activities are carried out in a way that aligns with KCN's values and priorities," Masson said.

He emphasized the relationship's foundation in trust, transparency and mutual respect since Boreal began exploring as a local company in northern Manitoba.

Community-centred approach

Janessa Kosar North, Kiciwapa Cree Nation's chief executive officer, highlighted the importance of companies understanding local values and building long-term relationships within their territory.

"For KCN, it's important that companies working in our territory understand the value of being local and building relationships over time. Boreal Gold has taken that approach, and this exploration agreement reflects the work that has gone into establishing a respectful and consistent presence in our region. Formalizing this partnership gives us a strong foundation to ensure exploration activities are carried out in a way that aligns with our Nations priorities, both now and in the future," Kosar North stated.

Agreement framework

The agreement establishes advance notification processes for ground-based exploration activities alongside regular engagement and information sharing protocols. Environmental and cultural stewardship measures include opportunities for KCN to conduct monitoring during exploration activities and engage elders and community representatives when appropriate.

Economic participation provisions support KCN members through employment, training and contracting opportunities for Nation businesses. Financial commitments include consultation and engagement funding plus annual contributions to the KCN Economic Development Fund.
