BQE Water (TSXV: BQE), a leader in treating mine waters and metallurgical bleed streams, reports that it has signed a contract with Hudbay Minerals (Hudbay) to advance the engineering design of a SART plant for integration into Hudbay’s Snow Lake, Manitoba mill to the issued-for-construction (IFC) phase.
BQE Water provides water treatment and management services for metals mining, smelting and refining. BQE Water invests in innovation and has commercialized unique intellectual property and new technologies at mine sites worldwide for organizations including Glencore, Jiangxi Copper, Freeport-McMoRan and the US EPA.
BQE Water is a leader in the SART process which enables cyanide consumed by base metals to be recovered and recycled, lowering the cost of gold extraction and reducing the environmental footprint of gold mining projects
"It has been a real pleasure to work with the Hudbay's team, who clearly understood the importance of a comprehensive assessment of integration of SART into one of their operations, and the value of BQE Water's expertise in achieving this objective. On a personal level, I am very happy for Chris Fleming, the inventor of SART, and a long time Director of BQE Water, that his Canadian invention will finally find its first Canadian application after a dozen plants built elsewhere," David Kratochvil, president and CEO of BQE Water, commented.
BQE Water proceeded with the SART construction decision after completing about six months of bench-scale testing, METSIM modelling, and preliminary engineering, and after Hudbay’s technical team conducted a SART process due-diligence visit to plants operated under BQE technical supervision.
With detailed engineering design underway, BQE Water and Hudbay are discussing site construction, commissioning, and ongoing technical SART operations support.
