Former Anglo American CEO Mark Cutifani to share insights at global mining event

The World Mining Congress 2026 (WMC 2026) Program Committee has announced that Mark Cutifani, a globally recognized voice in the mining industry, will deliver a plenary speech at the upcoming congress. The event in Lima, Peru will take place from June 24-26, bringing together global leaders to shape the future of the mining sector.

Cutifani brings over 48 years of experience spanning six continents, 20 countries, and the production of more than 30 minerals and metals. His participation comes at a critical time for the industry, which faces challenges in accelerating responsible critical mineral supply, building social trust, and leading transformation across the mining value chain.

A mining engineer by training, Cutifani is best known for his transformational leadership as Chief Executive Officer of Anglo American from 2013 to 2022. During his tenure, he led a historic restructuring that positioned the company among the sector's top performers. Under his guidance, Anglo American achieved an average annual shareholder return of 22%, doubled productivity, and reduced real unit costs by 40%, while enhancing its sustainability and innovation leadership.

Before joining Anglo American, Cutifani served as CEO of AngloGold Ashanti, where he successfully navigated complex business challenges. He has also held senior executive positions at Vale and Rio Tinto. Cutifani's industry influence extends to his roles as Chair of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) and President of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa.

In 2024, the British government awarded Cutifani the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for his contributions to global mining investment.

The WMC 2026 will feature Cutifani as part of its high-level platform for leadership, decision-making, and strategic dialogue. The congress will convene governments, CEOs, investors, and experts to address major industry challenges under the theme "Mining for the Future: Trust, Transformation, Technology."
