Dr. Doris Hiam-Gálvez, Program Chair of World Mining Congress 2026, participated in the "What happened to the nation builders?" Great Debate at the Future Minerals Forum (FMF). She offered insights on mining's role in national development. The forum debate took place on January 13-15 at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Hiam-Gálvez declared, "Mining will ultimately be judged by the future it enables." She emphasized that mining must shift from short-term gains to long-term prosperity to build nations effectively.

The Program Chair asserted that when mining evolves beyond extraction to genuine contribution without creating dependency, it produces tangible positive impacts. These include building trust, strengthening investor confidence, and enabling nations to thrive.

Hiam-Gálvez argued that mining can and must be part of the solution for the future. She believes it should act as a development enabler, allowing regions to prosper long after mining activities end.

Her participation at the FMF highlights the challenge posed by the upcoming World Mining Congress 2026. This event will convene authorities, leaders, and governments in Peru from June 24 to 26 to discuss global mining's future.
