New Afton operates beneath the historic Afton open pit mine, about 10 km west of Kamloops, British Columbia. Real-time geolocation via the Intelligent Positioning System (iPS) allows precise tracking of personnel and equipment for improved safety and operational efficiency. Real-time network monitoring through Smartloads ensures network reliability and security.
New Afton leverages these technologies to optimize operations while significantly enhancing worker safety. Remote operations allow miners to control machinery from a distance, reducing the need for frequent commutes to the deepest parts of the mine, a journey that typically takes 50 minutes each way.
