One of the world's largest copper producers has chosen Sandvik to supply 16 Sandvik D25KX down-the-hole (DTH) rotary drill rigs for operations in Zambia.

Sandvik booked the order in 2025, which includes the company's remote monitoring service, training and 12 months of technical support and spare parts stock to ensure high uptime and drilling productivity. The company will deliver all 16 drill rigs in sequenced batches during 2026.

The 16 DTH surface drills will complement the mine's aging fleet of nine Sandvik D25KS and four Pantera DP1500i drill rigs, which have operated since 2016. The new fleet will support the mine's recently commissioned expansion, which includes a new processing plant, smelter upgrades and a new open pit to boost annual throughput.

The Sandvik D25KX operates as a diesel-powered, crawler-mounted DTH rotary drill rig designed for hole diameters of 127-203 millimeters (5-8 inches), with maximum hole depth up to 27 meters (88 feet). The rig features a high-pressure air compressor system, heavy-duty pulldown chains, a mast designed for rugged mining terrain and a modern operator cabin with electro-hydraulic controls and large windows for increased visibility.
