SEEPEX has launched its BN pumps featuring smart joint access (SJA), a new design engineered for reliable and precise transfer of abrasive, corrosive, and chemical media in mining and construction. SEEPEX, a part of the Ingersoll Rand Group, specializes in pump technology for various industrial applications worldwide.

The pump, specifically designed for rock blasting, incorporates a large inspection opening for quick joint checks, a compact footprint for various installations, and flexible drive and material options to ensure consistent performance.

“Operators can inspect joints quickly and rely on precise pumping of shear-sensitive and abrasive emulsions. This is particularly critical in rock blasting, where every borehole counts for productivity," Magalie Levray, global business development manager for mining at SEEPEX, stated.

Industry context

Rock blasting plays a central role in mining, tunneling, and construction, requiring accurate and consistent loading of explosive emulsions to achieve controlled fragmentation and maintain productivity. Even minor deviations in pumping performance can lead to blast inconsistencies or delays. BN pumps with SJA support routine maintenance and pre-operation checks by allowing fast verification of joint integrity, enabling more efficient operations.

Inspection-friendly design for high availability

Smart joint access streamlines inspection routines. The inspection opening in the suction housing provides direct visual access to both joints, supporting shorter inspection cycles and high operational reliability. The pump's equal-wall stator enables high-pressure capability within a compact footprint. It can be equipped with either a compact hydraulic drive for mobile units or an electric drive for underground or stationary installations. The low-displacement hydraulic option reduces oil requirements and contributes to a low total cost of ownership.

SEEPEX progressive cavity pump technology ensures stable, controlled flow and protects product integrity, even when handling highly abrasive or shear-sensitive emulsions. A wide range of materials ensures compatibility with various chemical emulsions. Framework agreements support fast delivery and reliable availability, enabling standardized designs and fleet-wide rollouts with minimal downtime.

Applications – optimized for rock blasting

BN pumps with SJA suit applications in mining, tunneling, quarrying, civil works, and dam construction. They provide robust performance while enabling fast, reliable inspection and maintenance. With SJA, operators can quickly access both joints without disassembly, ensuring accurate and consistent emulsion transfer. This reduces downtime, preserves product integrity, and supports uniform dosing across multiple boreholes. The combination of equal wall stator design, compact integration, flexible drives, and progressive cavity pump technology ensures continuous, reliable operation even in space-limited, high-pressure environments.

Reliable performance across North and South American mines

The Americas host some of the world’s largest and most diverse mining operations, from copper and gold open pit mines in Chile and Peru to deep underground gold and silver mines in North America. BN pumps with SJA have been deployed across open pit operations to support mobile manufacturing units and in underground sites as skid-mounted pumping. Pre-operation inspections through the SJA opening ensure consistent emulsion dosing and reliable performance. An anonymous blasting technician said: “The inspection opening is a game changer. Instant verification of joint integrity minimizes emulsion loss or inconsistent loading and keeps operations on time.”

SEEPEX engineered SJA inspection openings on both sides of the suction housing, enabling flexible installation on either side of the truck and reducing overall setup costs. Framework agreements allow timely delivery across large-scale operations, resulting in shorter inspection cycles, enhanced uptime, and improved consistency in blast hole loading. By shortening and simplifying inspection cycles in confined underground environments, SEEPEX pumps with SJA help blasting service providers maintain reliable, predictable operations. The solution supports higher equipment availability in deep underground mines, where every intervention must be carefully planned and executed.
