NORCAT will bring together mining technology developers and industry buyers at its third biennial Mining Transformed showcase in Sudbury this May. The three-day event positions itself as the world's only underground technology exhibition, connecting companies seeking modern mining solutions with innovative developers.
The showcase takes place at NORCAT's Underground Centre in Onaping, northwest of Sudbury, where participants can test and demonstrate the latest technologies in actual mining conditions rather than traditional conference settings.
"At the NORCAT Underground Centre, we move beyond the polished promises of the boardroom and into the performance of the drift," the organization said in promotional literature. "This is where builders and buyers connect to validate autonomous systems, electrification, and digital integrations in real mining conditions."
Event draws global participation since 2022
NORCAT launched Mining Transformed in 2022, attracting exhibitors from around the world alongside many Northern Ontario companies. The unique venue allows participants to see firsthand how new technologies perform underground, giving buyers direct insight into potential operational benefits.
The timing aligns with BEV In Depth: Mines to Mobility, an annual conference that examines the battery-electric vehicle supply chain and Northern Ontario's role in strengthening it. This coordination creates opportunities for attendees to explore connections between mining innovations and the growing electric vehicle sector.
NORCAT operates unique underground testing facility
NORCAT operates one of the few facilities globally where mining technologies can be tested in genuine underground conditions. The organization, established as a not-for-profit mining innovation center, focuses on advancing safety, productivity and environmental performance in the mining sector.
The Underground Centre provides companies with access to realistic testing environments that traditional surface demonstrations cannot replicate. This approach helps validate equipment performance under actual mining conditions before companies make significant equipment investments.
Sudbury's position as a major mining centre makes it a natural location for such events. The region hosts numerous mining operations and serves as home to mining supply companies, research institutions and technology developers focused on advancing industry practices.
The May event expects to draw mining professionals, technology companies and industry researchers interested in exploring autonomous systems, electrification technologies and digital integration solutions for modern mining operations.
