Sisters from southern Ontario Stefanie St. Denis and Jennifer Crichton have found real gold in Newfoundland as the latest bonus prize of The Northern Miner’s Great Canadian Treasure Hunt.

Ontario sisters Stefanie St. Denis and Jennifer Crichton cracked the Argentia clues to claim the $37,000 gold bonus in The Northern Miner’s Great Canadian Treasure Hunt.

The long-time subscribers and escape-room enthusiasts flew to Newfoundland to collect the prize after weeks of puzzling.

The pair said the solution came together around Christmas, but they only acted when every thread pointed east. They followed “signals” from the article, video and posted clues.

“We woke up in the morning and we did not know that day we were going to Newfoundland – by the end of the day we were in Newfoundland,” St. Denis said told The Northern Miner host Devan Murugan. “It’s doable for anybody but you definitely have to put in some time and effort,” Crichton said.

For the sisters, the chase is as much about bonding and discovering Canada’s mining story as it is about gold. Immersed in the hunt, they said mining history now “shows up everywhere,” and they plan to keep competing as the $1-million national prize looms.
