ONTARIO — Cameco Corp. of Saskatoon is preparing to restart uranium hexafluoride (UF6) production at its Port Hope conversion facility. Production was suspended in December 2008, when Cameco was unable to secure a supply of hydrofluoric acid (HF) on acceptable terms.
A new contract with the historic supplier has been signed, and deliveries are expected to resume within a month. Cameco is also negotiating with other suppliers to diversify its supply base.
The 25 employees who were temporarily laid off in December will be recalled.
