VANCOUVER SONIC ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS has created a wholly owned subsidiary, Oil Sands Sonoprocess, to focus on the application and development of the company's core sonic generator technology in the oil sands industry.

Sonoprocess has been used, along with Sonic's Terra-Kleen technology, to treat contaminated soils at a variety of industrial sites. Sonoprocess is particularly useful for destroying polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).

Sonic says it has undertaken a limited development program on possible Sonoprocess applications in the oil sands and is working with a major researcher in Alberta. The program has examined the potential for Sonoprocess solutions and has involved some preliminary work on bitumen recovery from waste streams.
