QUEBEC SOUTH-MALARTIC EXPLORATION of Val d'Or, Que., is gearing up for production from its Croinor gold deposit. The measured and indicated resources stand at 2.5 million tonnes grading 3.46 g/t Au. That will initially support the mining of 60,000 tonnes of open pit ore, which will be treated at RICHMONT MINES' Camflo mill during the remainder of 2004. A 20,000-tonne bulk sample processed at the mill last February had an average gold recovery rate of 97.4%.

South-Malartic has asked CONSTRUCTION NORASCON of Amos to carry out all of the work related to pit start-up on a turnkey basis. Norascon will handle drilling, blasting, excavation, crushing and transportation to the mill. ROSS-FINLAY 2000 of Val d'Or is preparing an underground mining plan that includes using an access ramp at the base of the pit.
