SMITHERS, British Columbia The Kemess gold and copper mine of Vancouver's NORTHGATE EXPLORATION produced a record 84,132 oz of gold during the third quarter of this year. It also recovered 17 million lb of copper, despite lower metal recoveries. The mill treated a record 54,269 tonnes/day during the quarter.

Ken Stowe, president and CEO, commented, "The numerous production records established in the third quarter demonstrate that the culture of continuous improvement at the Kemess South mine is still delivering significant incremental operating benefits. The
process optimizations that our employees continue to make not only improve the cash flow from Kemess South but will significantly enhance the pre-feasibility study economics of the Kemess North Project that we announced in September."

Northgate will review its 2003 third quarter financial and operating results on Friday, Oct. 31, during a live conference call. The presentation package will be available that morning at www.northgateexploration.ca under the "Investor Info" heading.
