With so much fruitful gold exploration going on in northwestern Ontario around Red Lake, we pose a new Hot Topics poll this week. The new question is: “Will the Red Lake, Ont., area soon be home to a new gold mine that rivals the grade (1-oz gold per ton) of GOLDCORP’s Campbell-Red Lake operation?” To give us your opinion on this question and to check the results, visit the Hot Topic box on our homepage or Click Here.

Last week we got caught up in hockey fever, asking our readers which Canadian team will go furthest in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Far and away, the Montreal Canadiens are the favourites, garnering 83% of the vote. The Calgary Flames are a distant second (15%), and the Ottawa Senators are seen as an extremely long shot (2%). We are happy to report that our readers do care about hockey. The “don’t care” option received not a single vote. One reader commented that he has his cheering section wound up in another direction: “We also hope that Pittsburgh (an almost Canadian team) does well!”Another reader expressed a contrary view: “We get enough hockey polls in the rest of our lives and I would prefer to get mining-related news from your journal.”
