ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. The production hoist at CAMBIOR's Doyon gold mine broke down last weekend. The first step in getting it back in service is to dismantle the unit and assess the damage to bearings and the central shaft. Repairs might take two to six weeks, during which time temporary layoffs will be necessary.
Needless to say, supplies of Doyon ore to the mill will be reduced. The company hopes to continue operating the mill at capacity by processing 1,600 tonnes per day from the Mouska and Doyon underground mines plus 2,000 t/d from the low-grade (1 g/t Au) surface stockpile near the mill. The Doyon service hoist will be pressed into ore delivery, and trucks will haul more ore using the mine's ramp system.
