ABORIGINAL RELATIONS: Osisko and Metis Nation sign Hammond Reef protocol

ONTARIO – Osisko Hammond Reef Gold, a subsidiary of Montreal’s Osisko Mining Corp., has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Metis Nation of Ontario to guide their working relationship in regard to the development of the Hammond Reef gold project 170 km west of Thunder Bay.

The agreement promises the many local Metis communities and their joint councils will be consulted regarding the project. All parties have agreed to work together to address any potential impacts a mine may have on Metis rights, interests and way of life. A consultation committee has been formed of Kenora Metis Council president Joel Hanley, Northwest Metis Council president Alvina Cimon, Atikokan Metis Council president Marlene Davidson, the president of Sunset Country Metis Council, the Region One Captain of the Hunt, and Regional Councillor Theresa Stenlund as chairperson.

Osisko’s Hammond Reef contains an inferred resource of 530.6 million tonnes grading 0.62 g/t Au at a cut-off grade of 0.3 g/t. The tonnage contains 10.52 million oz of gold. Two open pits and a 50,000-t/d processing plant are planned.
