OTTAWA – The National Orphaned and Abandoned Mines Initiative (NOAMI) has release a new, updated database of such sites across Canada. NOAMI was launched in 2002 as a multi-partner – provinces, territories and several federal departments – collaboration. NOAMI’s new inventory is a tool offering single-point, web-based access to data from multiple jurisdictions. The website includes an interactive map to display the abandoned sites in the list as well as a searchable database. Users can follow links to the original data sources. With the information available in the inventory, partners and stakeholders have a logical and transparent tool for decision making, cost efficient planning, and sustainable rehabilitation. Take the opportunity to visit the NOAMI Inventory at www.NOAMI.org. Click on the “interactive maps” or “search the database” links.
