OTTAWA – The National Orphaned and Abandoned Mines Initiative
(NOAMI) has release a new, updated database of such sites across Canada. NOAMI was launched in 2002 as a multi-partner – provinces, territories and several federal departments – collaboration.
NOAMI’s new inventory is a tool offering single-point, web-based access to data from multiple jurisdictions. The website includes an interactive map to display the abandoned sites in the list as well as a searchable database. Users can follow links to the original data sources.
With the information available in the inventory, partners and stakeholders have a logical and transparent tool for decision making, cost efficient planning, and sustainable rehabilitation.
