100% wireless two-way voice and tracking system for coal miners
Active Control Technology (ACT) of Mississauga, Ont., is developing installation procedures and best practices for ActiveMine, a 100%-wireless two-way voice communications and tracking system for underground miners.
The initiative–a key building block for commercial deployment of the technology–is now underway and will use the previously installed ActiveMine work.
ActiveMine is the first fully-integrated, 100%-wireless communications and locating technology for underground mines. An innovative concept recently made possible by the commercial availability of new technologies, ActiveMine is designed to improve underground mining safety and enhance operating efficiencies through wireless, real-time electronic tracking of personnel and equipment, and robust two-way voice communications with each miner.
ACT will develop a manual for the installation and operation of ActiveMine, reflecting best practices and benchmark standards. The manual, intended for use by mine personnel, will establish a template for future deployment of the technology. In addition to ACT, its vendor partner MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration of Triadelphia, West Virginia) has agreed to send a representative to observe the benchmarking process.
