Building a 3-D mine model faster

Canadian Mining Journal Staff | October 1, 2005 | 12:00 am

BEIJING–Two researchers at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, have come up with an easier way to build a three-dimensional mine model.

Doctoral student YouAnbi writes: “Through our research, we have developed a library-based model-building technique. First we develop a mining feature library (natural and man-made features), which is then used to build the 3-D mine model. With this process, the users (mining engineers) need not understand the concept of datum plane, sketch or protrusion, etc. They need not master the complex procedure to create a loft or sweep. They only need to choose a menu and enter the necessary data in the pop-up dialogue box. This technique can greatly simplify and speed up the modelling procedure.”

For more information contact YouAnbi yab@bigfoot.com or youanbi2000@yahoo.com.cn or his advisor, Professor CaiSijing sjcai@admin.ustb.edu.cn. YouAnbi also teaches at Jiangxi University of Science and Technology.
