Canadian Mineral Exploration Trends
The 2005 edition of Overview of trends in Canadian mineral exploration is now available. It is prepared annually by the Canadian Intergovernmental Working Group on the Mineral Industry, and is published by the Minerals and Metals Sector of Natural Resources Canada, based in Ottawa. The comprehensive report is available in English or French, as a print publication or on the Internet at www.nrcan.gc.ca/mms/pubs.
Expenditures on exploration and deposit appraisal are tabulated for 2004 and 2005 according to work phase, type of activity, type of company and commodity sought. Drilling and claim-staking are similarly analyzed.
Of particular interest is the regional outlook section in which the major exploration projects in each Canadian province and territory are described. There are also brief summaries of the mineral exploration being done by Canadian-based companies in the United States and other global regions. An appendix of historical statistics is useful for researchers as it reaches back to 1972.
