CMP honours members, names executive

Canadian Mining Journal Staff | April 1, 2001 | 12:00 am

The highest honour for a mineral processor in this country is awarded annually at the Canadian Mineral Processors’ (CMP) meeting

This year it went to Chuck Edwards, senior metallurgist at CAMECO INC. He is well-known for his work in the oil sands as well as the uranium industry and is a Past Chairman of the CMP. Edwards was visibly moved by the recognition, earned for a lifetime contribution to the industry. “This is a beautiful medal,” he said. “Next to the love of my family this award means everything to me.”

Joe Holmes from FALCONBRIDGE’S RAGLAN OPERATION won the Bill Moore Special Achievers Award, given to a promising mineral processor early in his or her career.

During the business meeting, the following people were named to the CMP’s 2001-02 executive committee: Michael Smith (HATCH) Chairman; Jan Nesset (NORANDA TECHNOLOGY CENTRE) 1st Vice-Chairman; Sylvain Duchesne (AUR, LOUV-COURT MINE) 2nd Vice-Chairman; Angela Putz (CANMET) Secretary; Ray MacDonald (CANMET ret.) Treasurer; and Maurice Tagami (EUROZINC MINING) Past Chairman.

The 33rd Annual Meeting of the CMP was attended by a record number of delegates, over 390 from around the world. It was held Jan. 23-35, 2001, in Ottawa, Ont.
