Diamond developments

Canadian Mining Journal Staff | April 1, 2004 | 12:00 am

The Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB) has recommended the approval of the Environmental Impact Statement for the Jericho diamond project, 100%-owned by Tahera Corp. The NIRB approval comes after a period of review, which culminated with public hearings from Jan. 5-9, 2004, in three Nunavut communities. The recommendation has been forwarded to the Minister of Indian & Northern Affairs for federal approval.

The recommendation comes with terms and conditions, which Tahera will assess and, as necessary, work co-operatively with all stakeholders to fulfill.

The NIRB approval represents a major milestone regarding development of Jericho as Nunavut’s first diamond mine. The feasibility study indicates robust economics for a diamond mine centred on the land-based Jericho kimberlite. Tahera is targeting completion of both permitting and project financing initiatives during 2004.
