How we chose the top 40
We ranked Canada’s Top 40 mining companies based on year 2000 revenues. Except as noted the companies use December 31 as their year-end. To be included on the list, a company must be incorporated in Canada and have at least one mineral producer in this country. The figures we use are those published in the latest corporate annual reports or those appearing on the System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval (SEDAR), which is used to report financial information of public companies to Canadian securities regulators. Where figures for private companies are used, they were obtained directly from the companies involved. Figures reported in American dollars were converted to Canadian dollars at a rate of 1.485, based on the Bank of Canada’s annual average exchange rate for 2000.
