Micrograph cross-section of a multilayer ceramic chip capacitor with more than 500 layers. It has <1-micron thick layers of nickel powder printed onto 3-micron thick ceramic layers. Nickel is making inroads into the capacitor market as a substitute for the much more expensive palladium.
