Canadian listings Increase on London exchange
There has been a marked increase in interest from resource companies that want a public listing on the London Exchange in the United Kingdom. Twenty-four new resource companies have joined the exchange in the last 12 months, including the Canadian companies Thistle Mining, SouthernEra Resources, Bema Gold and First Calgary Petroleums since late July. Alcan Inc. and Inco Ltd. have been listed in London since the 1950s.
London has traditionally been a source of finance for resource companies around the world. Its equity markets currently trade shares in 139 resource companies with a combined market capitalization of over Cdn$1.2 trillion.
The London Exchange is actively promoting its benefits to resource companies in Canada. According to Charlotte Crosswell, head of North American business development: “London offers a choice of markets–our main market and also AIM, our market for smaller, growing companies. We have more international funds under management in London than any other centre in the world, and we have twice as much trading in international stocks reported to us as NYSE, NASDAQ, Deutsche Boerse and Euronext combined. This helps London offer unrivalled access to capital.”
