The 4.6-m-tall Sudbury Mining Heritage sculpture, reflecting mining's past, present and future, was unveiled in Sudbury, Ont.'s Bell Park on September 15. The sculpture was created and produced by Elmira, Ont. sculptor Timothy P. Schmaltz, as a commission from the Sudbury Mining Heritage Committee. The striking bronze work includes 299 mine workers. The committee worked for nine years on this project, raising about $300,000 in cash or services for the artwork and the preparation of its permanent site on an outcrop in the park.
