More than Free Gold
Many people in exploration and the mining industry are aware of Free Gold, the story of Canadian mining up to 1946, which was written by Arnold Hoffman. Now follows the sequel.
More than Free Gold: Mineral Exploration in Canada since WWII is written by Michael Barnes, author of eleven other industry-related books. The book has been published by General Store Publishing House of Renfrew, Ont., under the auspices of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, with the proceeds going to Mining Matters, the association’s charitable education group. The book will be available February 2008.
In this endeavour the author was mentored by Dr. Jim Franklin, former chief scientist, Natural Resources Canada, and John Harvey, former vice-president exploration for Noranda. Both men are now consultants.
The main topics in the book include exploration funding trends; four chapters on the geosciences, equipment and production success; eight chapters on commodities– the metals, diamonds and uranium, exploration cycles and budgets; as well as an extensive bibliography and more than 200 images.
The author may be contacted at michaelbarnes53@hotmail.com.
