Arena Gold Resources Inc. of Val D’Or, Que., has appointed Carl L. Caumartin as vice-president, exploration. Arena has also appointed Carlo Gillet of Arena to replace Vincenzo Bonifati as director. Arena is an exploitation company with work on the Apredor property in the Republic of Guinea (West Africa).

Andr Y. Fortier has been appointed president and CEO of Campbell Resources Inc., replacing John Kachmar who is stepping down. Fortier is chairman and CEO of MSV Resources Inc. and president of GeoNova Exploration Inc. At the same time, Campbell has announced that it is adopting a new strategy to focus on its core mining operations in Quebec, including the transfer of its executive office from Toronto to Montreal.

Michael Sopko has announced that he will be stepping down in late April from the positions of chairman and CEO of Toronto-based Inco Ltd. He will serve as non-executive chairman for about a year, and then sit on the company’s board in an advisory role. Inco president, Scott Hand, will become CEO and deputy chairman. The current executive vice-president of operations, Peter Jones, will assume the roles of president and COO.

Noranda Inc. of Toronto has announced that executive vice-president and COO Dave Goldman is leaving the company, and will soon be replaced. The company announced the appointment of Catharine Johnston to the new position of executive vice-president, business excellence. Her responsibilities will include increasing Noranda’s organizational effectiveness, ensuring the development and growth of Six Sigma, and making sure that best management and operational practices are adopted across the company. Noranda has also recruited Michael F. Doolan as senior vice-president, financial planning. Doolan was formerly vice-president, financial planning at Nexfor.
