Agnico-Eagle Mines has elevated VP and COO Ebe Scherkus to its board of directors. A graduate of McGill University, he has worked for the company for two decades including as manager of the company’s LaRonde Division.
Rich Haddock has been named VP environment at Barrick Gold of Toronto. He replaces John McDonough who recently became VP Chile/Argentina.
Bioteq has hired Bruce Chamberlain as its manager of operations. Chamberlain is a chemical engineer with experience at Cominco’s Trail smelter, Noranda’s Brunswick smelting operation, and Noranda’s recycling facility in California.
Birch Mountain Resources has announced the appointments of three people to help advance the company’s limestone development in northeastern Alberta. Larry Shelley is an advisor to the board; Russ Gerrish is VP engineering and operations; and Hansine Ullberg is VP finance and CFO.
Cambior Inc. of Longueuil, Que., has appointed Jean-Andr Elie as an independent director to its board; Elie will also be a member of the Audit Committee.
Harry Michael has been appointed to the board of Toronto-based Equinox Minerals Ltd. Michael was recently appointed COO to lead the development of the company’s major Lumwana copper project in Zambia.
Vancouver-based Hillsborough Resources has two new COOs. Paul Krivokuca, senior VP and general manager of subsidiary Quinsam Coal, has been appointed COO of underground operations. He will remain at the mine site in Campbell River, B.C. The other appointment is David Fawcett as COO of surface operations. He will work from the Vancouver office.
Gang Chai, chairman and CEO of Toronto-based McVicar Resources, is assuming the role of president following the resignation of John H. Paterson as president and COO.
Vancouver-based Minco Silver Corp. has appointed two independent directors to its board: Wade K. Dawe of Halifax, N.S., and Chan-Seng Lee of Vancouver. Dawe has been an entrepreneur in Canadian mining and venture capital industries since 1994. Lee is presently the controller for Partnerships British Columbia Inc. The board now consists of Dr. Ken Z. Cai, William Meyer, Robert Quartermain, Wade Dawe and Chan-Seng Lee.
Mirabel Resources Inc. of Pointe-Claire, Que., has added Emile Molgat to its board of directors.
William (Bill) Edward Stone has joined Vancouver-based Nevada Star Resource Corp. as VP exploration. Previously he was principal geologist in the Vancouver office of Geoinformatics Exploration (Perth), where he worked in a major collaborative exploration project with Anglo American Exploration of Canada. He is a graduate of Dalhousie University and the University of Western Ontario.
Noranda Aluminum of Toronto and Century Aluminum have announced that Parviz Farsangi is now the president and general manager of jointly-owned Gramercy Alumina and St. Ann Bauxite. Previously Farsangi was general manager of Falconbridge’s Sudbury mines/mill business unit.
Bradford Cooke has been appointed to the board of Vancouver-based Pinnacle Mines Ltd. Cooke is a professional geologist with more than 28 years experience in geology and mineral exploration. In 1987, he founded Canarc Resource Corp. and has overseen the growth of the company since that time.
