Mike Petrina has joined Adanac Molybdenum Corp. of Vancouver as its general manager of the Ruby Creek molybdenum project near Atlin, B.C.

AMEC has appointed Dr. Michael Davies to head its Mining Sector for global earth and environmental operations. He will be based in Vancouver.

Vancouver-based Canarc Resource Corp. has added Bruce Bried as president and COO. Garry Biles joins the company as vice-president and manager of the New Polaris gold project.

Century Mining of Blaine, Wash., has hired Bill Dodds as general manager of its Sigma and Lamaque gold mine in Val d’Or, Que.

Cogitore Resources of Toronto has named Dr. Grald Riverin its new CEO. He will retain his duties as president, and Mark Goodman will continue to serve as the company’s executive chairman.

Gordon Thompson has been appointed president and CEO of Toronto’s Crystallex International. He was a Crystallex director from 2000 to 2002.

Scott Hand is retiring from his duties at CVRD Inco, and Murilo Ferreira will be the new president and CEO, based in Toronto. Ferreira will retain his position as executive director of CVRD. Leonard Moretzsohn, formerly director of internal controls at CVRD, will step into the job of executive vice-president and CFO. The management team includes COO Mark Cutifani; executive vice-president marketing Peter Goudie; executive vice-president, general counsel and secretary Simon Fish; executive vice-president human resources Scott McDonald; and executive vice-president Goro Nickel Phil du Toit.

Dr. Paul J. Bartos is joining Esperanza Silver of Vancouver as vice-president and chief geologist.

The new vice-president of exploration at Toronto’s Excellon Resources is John Sullivan. He was most recently a senior geologist with Watts, Griffis & McOuat.

W.S. (Steve) Vaughan, one of Canada’s leading experts on mining and natural resources law, has become a partner in the business law group of Heenan Blaikie in its Toronto office.

Now that Vancouver-based Imperial Metals has won the takeover war for bcMetals, it has appointed a transitional board of directors at bcMetals. The board includes Jay Sujir (chairman of bcMetals), Brian Kynoch (president of Imperial) and Pierre Lebel and Larry Moeller (both directors of Imperial). Kynoch also becomes president of bcMetals. The other former members of the bcMetals board have resigned.

Toronto’s North American Palladium has named a new vice-president of exploration and development, Reno Pressacco.

Jamie Lavigne is the new vice-president of exploration for the New Britannia gold project near Snow Lake, Man. The project is a joint venture of Piper Capital and Garson Resources, both with head offices in Vancouver.

Redcorp Ventures of Vancouver has appointed Kenneth G. Lowe as chairman of the board.

Sargold Resource Corp. of Vancouver has named George Paspalas as its president and COO.

Hall Stewart is the new vice-president of exploration at Soho Resources of Vancouver.

Vancouver-based Starfield Resources has appointed Andr J. Douchane as president and CEO.

Ursa Major Minerals of Toronto has named Veikko Koskela as its operations manager for the Shakespeare nickel-copper project near Sudbury, Ont. Koskela was vice-president of mining operations for Outokumpu Mines, also of Toronto.
