The Freeze Plant automation scheme is one of many control units in the system, and typifies the Cigar Lake mine's layered control network architecture. Remote PLCs (right) connect to a distributed field-mounted enclosure that houses the field control processors and field device integrator modules. This field control network is one of several that in turn connect (over the fibre optic network) with the supervisory control room computers for higher-level control and management applications.
