Publication (August 01, 2006)

Canadian Mining Journal Staff | August 1, 2006 | 12:00 am

How can mining companies improve their biodiversity performance? The question is answered in considerable detail in a new International Council on Mining & Metals publication, Good Practice Guidance for Mining and Biodiversity. The 142-page guide has been produced as part of an extensive dialogue between ICMM and the World Conservation Union.

The publication provides an informative, accessible and highly practical reference source on biodiversity that can be used by mining companies at all stages of their operations, from initial exploration to mine closure planning and implementation. This includes a background to biodiversity and its relevance to mining companies; the management and integration of biodiversity into day-to-day operations; typical tools and processes needed for assessment including stakeholder engagement; and a variety of checklists and other supporting materials.

The Good Practice Guidance is available at www.icmm.com, or you can request a hard copy at [email protected].
