Safety news: Troilus Recognized for Outstanding Safety Performance
The Troilus gold mine 175 km north of Chibougamau, Qu., was awarded both the John T. Ryan and F.J. O’Connell trophies in recognition of its outstanding safety performance in 2001. Troilus did not record an employee lost-time accident during 2001, and from early 2000 to February 2002 achieved 624 days accident-free.
The John T. Ryan Trophy is awarded annually by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (based in Montral) to the mine having the lowest reportable injury rate. The F.J. O’Connell Trophy is awarded annually by the Qubec Mining Association (based in Qubec City) to the mine that has achieved the best year-over-year improvement in accident frequency.
Inmet Mining Corp. of Toronto has 100% interest in Troilus. The company’s current operating base consists of Troilus and three other competitive mining operations: Cayeli (Turkey), Pyhsalmi (Finland) and Ok Tedi (Papua New Guinea).
