Timmins news
The Porcupine Miners Memorial Committee has put together a project to recognize the contributions of miners and mining companies to the Porcupine Camp of northeast Ontario. The group is raising $250,000 to erect a Miners Monument at the Timmins Gold Mine Tour site. The monument will be a seven-foot-tall bronze sculpture of a miner and his family by a Val d’Or artist, recognizing the contribution made by the area’s miners and their families.
The photo shows Elizabeth Ferrari of the committee standing next to one of the claim posts that will surround the Miners Monument. Sponsors can purchase an engraved claim tag for $25, or corporate sponsors can purchase a whole post for $500. So far, many of the tags have been purchased by families to celebrate a member who worked in one of the area mines. Contact the committee at minersmemorial@hotmail.com.
