ABORIGINAL AFFAIRS: Kluane First Nation, Prophecy Platinum reach accord on Wellgreen

YUKON – Prophecy Platinum of Vancouver and the Kluane First Nation have reached a co-operation and benefits agreement for the Wellgreen nickel-copper-PGM project 317 km northwest of Whitehorse. The agreement covers Prophecy’s exploration program and environmental studies on the property.

The Wellgreen project is in the advanced stage of exploration. It has an indicated resource of 14.3 million tonnes grading 0.69% Ni, 0.62% Cu, 0.05% Co, 0.52 g/t Au, 0.99 g/t Pt and 0.74 g/t Pd (at a 0.40% NiEq cut-off). Inferred resources in the East and West zones total 289.2 million oz at 0.38% Ni, 0.35% Cu, 0.03% Co, 0.23 g/t Au, 0.53 g/t Pt and 0.42 g/t Pd. These figures are from the July 2011 technical report.

The agreement between Prophecy and the Kluane includes provisions for employment and training, contracting opportunities and an equity position in the company for the Kluane First Nation, plus funding for implementation of the agreement. It also specifies environmental protection and a framework to develop a definitive agreement as the project goes forward.
